Questions on accessing and using our curriculum and systems

It’s my first day. Will I be expected to remember everything?

You have your instructors and the Student Leadership Team (SLT) to lean back on. The only silly question is the one that is not asked. You will get to a point where it is easier to retain the information.

What if I have classroom questions?

Speak with one of the Instructor. They will do their best to answer any questions you have.

What if I don’t see my instructor in the classroom?

All our instructors are well qualified to assist you. Any of the instructors or designated student leaders will be able to help you.

There is an event on the homepage that looks interesting, but I am not sure whether or not I am at the point where I should be attending. How do I know?

Ask an Instructor. Most events are pre-cursors to other courses that you will be taking so they build on each other. You can also take events more than once for greater retention of information along with different student feedback.

Who should I contact if I have a personal or family emergency that will affect my attendance?

Please call, email, or speak to your Instructor or Student Services. A lapse in attendance can affect your financial aid or funding, so communication is important.

What happens if I become sick with the cold, flu or something else?

Attendance is tracked Monday through Saturday. Asher College is open 6 days per week so if you miss a day that you normally attend, most students can generally make it up by Saturday. If you are unable to make your hours for the week, please notify your instructor or student services.

Will I need any additional supplies during the course of my training?

Many students like to use notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, and backpacks. All books and course materials are provided.

What is this message that pops up on the screen when I log in?

That is what we call a Student Alert Message and the purpose of it is to let you know that Admissions, Financial Aid, Career Services, or your instructors need to see you. This is NOT because you are in trouble. We need to make sure you are taken care of and this is one of the ways we can take care of needs you may not be aware of.

Can my instructors be a reference?

ABSOLUTELY! However, there are some strings attached. Our instructors and staff need to see a great commitment to achieving that goal of completing your education and beginning a new career.

What is Career Services and what do they do?

Career Services is here to assist you and will partner with you in your job search. A detailed outline of the specifics will be provided to you during the Introduction to Career Services lecture that your admissions advisor will assist you in signing you up for. We pride ourselves on the varied workshops we provide, our outstanding Mock Interview process, and the Advanced Career Development course you’ll be taking toward the end of your program. We’ll be working with you throughout the program. Employers don’t just want hard skills; they want the soft skills that our Career Success courses and workshops can help you with.

Will attending events and Career Success classes apply to my hours?

Yes, it will! Career Success is a formal part of your program. The hours for Career Success are built into your programs and are accounted for.

What are the ACD classes about?

ACD stands for Advanced Career Development. ACD is a student driven class that is part of the curriculum and is taken toward the end of your studies to prepare you for employment. The class meets once a week for 8 weeks, and the when the timing is right, the Director of Career Services will reach out to get you scheduled.

Who or What are the SLT’s?

SLT stands for Student Leadership Team. The Student Leadership Team handles tutoring and one on one sessions in the classroom. You may even meet one or two of them on your first day of class. SLT’s are appointed by their instructors because they have shown themselves to be a role model in the classroom and meeting or exceeding student academic progress. We encourage all students to aspire to become part of the Student Leadership Team.
